Your Safety and Recovery Are Our Priority
At Mora & Valdez Dentistry, we want every patient to feel prepared, supported, and safe before and after any procedure. That’s why we’ve put together a clear guide with the most important recommendations to ensure a comfortable experience and optimal recovery.
Before Your Procedure
Preoperative Information
These instructions may vary depending on the treatment, but in general we recommend:
1. Food
If your procedure requires local anesthesia, you may eat normally up to 2 hours before your appointment, unless instructed otherwise.
For more complex surgeries, partial fasting may be recommended — you will be informed in advance.
2. Medications
Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking.
Strictly follow instructions if antibiotics or analgesics were prescribed prior to the procedure.
Do not stop any medication without approval.
3. Oral Hygiene
Maintain good hygiene before the appointment: gentle brushing and mouthwash.
Avoid arriving after prolonged fasting to prevent dizziness.
4. Clothing and Comfort
Wear comfortable clothing and avoid large accessories.
If you are sensitive to cold, you may bring a light jacket.
5. Companion
For surgeries, complex extractions, or sedated procedures, you must come with a responsible companion.
6. X-Rays and Exams
Depending on your evaluation, the doctor may request a panoramic X-ray, CT scan, or cephalometric radiograph to ensure accurate diagnosis before treatment.
After Your Procedure
Postoperative Information
Instructions vary depending on the treatment, but here are general guidelines:
1. Immediate Care
Keep the gauze in place after an extraction for the time indicated (usually 30–45 minutes).
Avoid spitting, vigorous rinsing, or using straws during the first 24 hours.
2. Medications
Take pain relievers and antibiotics exactly as prescribed.
Do not take aspirin unless recommended.
3. Diet
Start with soft and cold foods: yogurt, purée, smoothies, ice cream (without a straw).
Avoid hot, spicy, or hard foods for 48–72 hours.
Stay well-hydrated.
4. Oral Hygiene
Avoid brushing the treated area for the first 24 hours.
From the next day, do gentle warm-salt-water rinses (if approved by your doctor).
Maintain normal hygiene in untreated areas.
5. Physical Activity
Avoid strenuous exercise for 48–72 hours to prevent bleeding or swelling.
Sleep with your head slightly elevated on the first night if you had surgery.
6. Ice and Swelling
Apply ice packs in 20-minute intervals for the first 24 hours.
Mild swelling or sensitivity is normal.
7. Warning Signs
Contact the clinic if you experience:
Severe pain not relieved by medication
Excessive bleeding
Fever
Strong odor or discharge
Severe swelling after 3 days
